Osteoarthritis

Osteoarthritis primarily refers to a chronic joint problem that is associated with degeneration and loss of cartilage as well as bone spurs that have grown on the bones and/or in the joints. This causes a reduction in mobility and an increase in inflammation.

This painful condition can be found in not just senior pets, but in any age or size dog. At least 40% of dogs show symptoms during screening for Osteoarthritis. Additional risk factors such as obesity, orthopedic conditions, and previous injury increase the dog’s risk factors for developing Osteoarthritis.

Symptoms are not always limited to limping or less activity but can also present as behavioral changes or even changes in urination or defecation habits. Use this easy to navigate checklist to help identify if your pet might be experiencing any changes. It can help guide your conversation with
your pet’s veterinarian and the different treatment options available.
