Feline Core Vaccines

FVRCP:  (Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis, Calicivirus and Panleukopenia)

Kittens – Given at 8, 12, and 16 weeks.

If the feline has never been vaccinated or has an unknown vaccine history and is older than 16 weeks, the vaccine is given and boostered in 3-4 weeks. The vaccine is then boostered in 1 year, then every 3 years thereafter.

Rabies:  The state of Nevada recognizes the rabies vaccine when it is given as early as 12 weeks.

In our clinic, the vaccine is typically given at 16 weeks.

The vaccine we use for felines in our clinic is boostered yearly regardless of previous vaccine history.

The doctors have chosen this particular vaccine as it has a lower risk of causing vaccine related cancers later in life due to being adjuvant free.

Feline Lifestyle Vaccines

FeLV: (Feline Leukemia)

Kittens – Given at 12 and 16 weeks.

If the feline has never been vaccinated or has an unknown vaccine history and is older than 16 weeks, the vaccine is given and boostered in 3-4 weeks. Once the feline receives the 2nd annual booster, the vaccine should be continued annually for felines that go outside, have contact with outdoor felines, or there are 4 or more felines in the home.

It is medically recommended that felines are FIV/FeLV tested prior to this vaccine.

If the feline is under 6 months of age and tests positive, it is possible for the test should be performed again after the feline is over 6 months of age or a confirmatory laboratory test can be sent to our reference lab.

A kitten is not going to be well protected until 2 weeks after his/her last set of vaccinations.

Generally, there are 3 sets administered.

All felines need to be boostered 1 year after their last set of kitten vaccinations
